Privacy Policy

1. Overview
This policy explains how TimeInRussia.com ("the site," "we," "us") handles information about visitors. The site is operated as an independent reference about Russian time zones; it does not require an account, does not host comments, and does not collect names, addresses, or payment details from readers. Information is collected in two situations: automatically when a browser requests a page, and voluntarily when a reader contacts us by email.
By using TimeInRussia.com you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please stop using the site.
2. Information collected automatically
When you load a page, your browser shares technical information that any website receives. We and our service providers may log:
- IP address and approximate region derived from it
- Browser type, version, and language
- Operating system and device type
- Referring URL, if any
- Pages requested, request time, and time spent on each page
- Screen size and viewport, used to render layouts correctly
This information is used to operate the site, measure aggregate usage, troubleshoot errors, and detect abuse such as automated scraping.
3. Information you provide
If you email any of the addresses listed on the contact page, your email address and the contents of your message are stored in our inbox so we can read and reply. We do not add these addresses to a marketing list, and we do not sell or share them.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
The site uses cookies and similar technologies for three purposes. The full breakdown, including categories and how to control them, is on the Cookie Policy page. In short:
- Functional cookies and local storage: remember small preferences such as the most recently selected city and theme.
- Analytics: Google Analytics 4 records anonymized usage so we can see which pages are read.
- Advertising: Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to deliver advertising and, where lawful, personalize it.
You can manage or block cookies in your browser. Some site features may behave differently if cookies are disabled.
5. Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand traffic patterns at an aggregate level. Analytics data is processed by Google under its own privacy terms. See Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
6. Advertising and Google AdSense
This site is supported by display advertising delivered through Google AdSense.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this site and other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings.
- Users may also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or, if you are in the EU, YourOnlineChoices.eu.
- For more on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
7. Other third-party services
Leaflet and OpenStreetMap. The interactive zone map loads tiles from OpenStreetMap when you scroll to it. The OSM tile servers receive your IP address as part of any normal HTTP request. See OpenStreetMap's Privacy Policy.
Hosting and CDN. The site is served by a hosting provider and may pass through a content delivery network. These providers receive standard request information necessary to deliver the page.
8. Legal bases (EEA and UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process personal data under the bases set out in the GDPR:
- Legitimate interests for operating, securing, and improving the site, including non-personalized analytics where permitted.
- Consent for personalized advertising and any non-essential cookies. Consent is requested through a consent banner and can be changed at any time.
- Legal obligation where retention or disclosure is required by law.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Request access to the data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of data
- Object to processing or restrict it
- Withdraw consent for any processing based on consent
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority
To exercise these rights, email privacy@timeinrussia.com. We may need to verify your request before acting on it.
10. California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have additional rights, including the right to know what categories of personal information are collected, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information for money. To the extent that the use of advertising cookies on this site is treated as "sharing" under California law, you can opt out by visiting Google Ad Settings and by following the controls in our Cookie Policy.
11. Children
The site is general-audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Data retention
Server access logs are kept for a short period for security and debugging, then rotated. Email correspondence is kept for as long as it remains useful for replying to follow-up questions or for our records. Analytics and advertising data retention is governed by the providers; see Google's policies linked above.
13. International transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, those providers operate under appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms.
14. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. We rely on standard hosting and platform safeguards. No internet service can be guaranteed perfectly secure; we do our best.
15. Do Not Track
Browsers vary in how they emit a "Do Not Track" signal, and there is no industry consensus on how to interpret it. We do not currently treat that signal as a separate opt-out, but you can use the cookie-control options described in our Cookie Policy.
16. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when something material changes — a new analytics tool, a new advertising vendor, a new legal requirement. The "Last reviewed" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Please check back occasionally.
17. Contact
